Stephanie Tatum, LPC, ADDC
What Am I Passionate About?
I am passionate about helping individuals tap into their inner strengths and uncover obstacles that may hinder healing and growth. By gently challenging my clients, I aim to create those “ah ha” moments that lead to deeper self-awareness and transformation.
With expertise in working with diverse populations—including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and persons with disabilities—I strive to create an inclusive, affirming space for everyone I work with.
My Approach to Therapy
I provide a compassionate and supportive space for survivors of trauma, including racial trauma, couples, families, and individuals striving to overcome substance use disorders. My counseling services extend to those managing anxiety, depression, grief, and loss, helping them navigate their unique challenges.
I am dedicated to fostering a culturally congruent space where clients can explore societal pressures, internalized oppression, intergenerational trauma, and ancestral wounds. At the heart of my work is the belief that individual and collective healing is essential for educating, empowering, and advocating for social justice and equity.
Lastly, my clients know me affectionately as a direct, non-judgmental, compassionate counselor. I approach counseling through an eclectic lens where I incorporate a variety of theories and utilize evidence-based approaches such as Somatic Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, and Family Systems Therapy. When requested, I infuse spirituality and faith into therapeutic sessions.
“It is not enough to be involved – we must be committed to making a difference.” (Shirley Chisholm)
I am an advocate for Black men and women, dedicated to bridging the Black mental health gap and creating pathways that will positively influence future generations. I do not take lightly the privilege of offering support in these crucial areas.
As a Black woman, I understand firsthand the daily challenges of navigating gender bias, racism, and oppression. I also recognize the unique burden of carrying the weight of others’ struggles while often feeling unable to share your own safely. It’s about removing the “superwoman” cape and finding a space to heal, be heard, and be seen.
Education Background
I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado. As a life-long learner, I continuously seek to expand my expertise, particularly in trauma and healing work, alcohol and substance use disorders, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). These ongoing learning experiences enhance my practice and allow me to offer the most effective, evidence-based support to my clients.
Beyond the Office
Aside from counseling, I enjoy being a wife, mother of four adult children and grandma (yes, you read that right. LOL). This lends more time to engage in self-care activities and spend quality time with my family and friends.
